Ice Cream and Nusstorte

We held our fifth annual Swissmas this past weekend. 

I don’t think I’ve ever posted about this fusion dinner event that my best friend and I organize once a year in November. It think the initial rational behind it was that I wanted my Swiss friend to introduce me to some of her food traditions but basically, it’s an excuse to eat fondue…

If Swissmas really did exist, it would be the perfect holiday.

Every year I try to make something that surprises my friend and reminds her of foods from when she lived back in Switzerland.

For dessert this year, I was going to bring something simple – homemade ice cream. The Swiss are known for having great ice cream. And we had a lot of fun making it together after dinner.

Have you ever made homemade ice cream? It’s surprisingly easy to make, the actual part in the ice cream machine takes under 30 minutes, and tastes so much better than store bought. I used a custard style recipe this year from here.

For my Swiss surprise, I made a Nusstorte – Nut Torte.

It was DELICIOUS. Especially with a little bit of vanilla ice cream on top. The crust turned out dense and cookie like, the middle was carmel and nuts. What’s not to love. The recipe for this torte came from here
