Self Striping Success

Yarn has come a long way since my Grandma first tried to teach me how to knit many, many (maaaaaaannny) years ago. I think that’s one of the reason’s I’m so excited about knitting now – there are so many different yarn types and styles. And so many very, very pretty ones!

I’ve been wanting to try a self-striping yarn for a while now. These were so much fun to knit up.

I used Knit Picks Flici Self-Striping yarn.

And for the pattern I tried a new one – Vanilla Socks with an Afterthought Heel.

The pattern came together really quickly. And I like the way it looks. But.. I have to say I don’t think I’m a fan of the afterthought heel part. I love doing toe-up socks and when you come to the cuff and bind off – that’s it!! With this one you have to go back and dig out the stitches for the heel that you saved… and maybe I’m just too nervous about missing stitches still?

Do you have a favourite go-to pattern that’s tried-and-true?

Thanks so much, Sheryl! I like the way it looks too!! It’s just the fact that you have to go back after you’ve finished the sock to put in the heel. But I do like that except for the side, it’s seamless. It would probably feel really nice in a shoe. 🙂 I’m all about well crafted socks. LOL!
