Sew Excited! {Contest Announcement}

I have been waiting to make this post for a while now. This is the beginning of an exciting adventure for me!!

Regular blog readers will know that I’ve been in the market for a new sewing machine for a while now. On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and here – I’ve been asking for your advice:

  • What should I look for?
  • What do you use for sewing?
  • Why did you choose it?
  • How did you buy it?
  • How long have you had your existing machine for?

I’ve listened and really appreciated all your responses! And I’ve also done LOTS research on my own (I’m such an A-type personality – would you like to see my lists??).

During this time I’ve come to learn about a unique new opportunity for us Canadians! Perhaps you’ve heard about it?

It’s called Janome Shop-At-Home (SAH)ย and it’s a fabulous new concept. With most sewing machines, the traditional path to purchase a new sewing machine has been through a local dealer. Our local fabric stores and sewing machine dealers are still so very important (so please – support our local stores!) but consumers are making purchasing decisions differently these days. We google. We go online. We use social media. Janome Canada recognizes this and has created a unique new opportunity – the SAH experience!

JanomeSAH

The wonderful people at Janome Canada have asked me to help share this experience with you! Over the next few weeks, I’m going to take you through SAH and a few of the machines they have to offer on their online site.

The Janome Shop-At-Home website is really a great site. Not only can you get a detailed look at the machines they offer online but there are lots of valuable sewing resources and tips on the site as well. One of the resources on their website, in addition to the great videos, was the comparison feature. When I was looking at what models to choose, this helped me understand what set the different models apart from one another.

The machines I will be reviewing were picked up directly from my local Janome dealer –ย Quilt-As-Desired. I’ll tell you a little bit more about this lovely local sewing store in the weeks to come but if you live in Winnipeg and you sew, and even if you don’t sew, or you sew but don’t live in Winnipeg – you have probably heard of Quilt-As-Desired. They are to Winnipeg like Jennie’s Cake and Rye Bread (yes – it all comes back to food with me). Rob and Kelly have been owners of this store out on Pembina Highway for nine years (the store itself has been around for much longer than that). They are the only authorized Janome dealer in Winnipeg.

Did you know…

Statistics say sewing is on the rise again. Shows like Project Runway and home makeover shows have brought a renewed interested in DIY and in brining the craft of sewing back in popularity. And the internet creates community in a whole new way for this audience. Pinterest is becoming a hobby of mine all in itself!

One quote I read said, “sewing ethusiasts are no longer sewing because they have to, they are sewing because they want to.”

I think that is so true! And so me! Why do you sew? How do you find time to work sewing into your busy modern life?

Sew now…

So now I have these little babies in my dining room (which is where I tend to do most of my sewing).

I have already opened one of the boxes already – but I’ll tell you more about that later this week. Until then, I have a little (a big??) contest for you! I hope you’ll follow along with me as I immerse myself in the Jamone-SAH experience because at the end of my research project I’m going to pick one of these machines to be my very own AND… one lucky blog reader will also receive a Janome Juno G1218!!

Enter using Rafflecopter! Good luck!

my local Janome Dealer is Fun with Stitches in Belleville Ontario. I find time to sew by either sewing in the morning or late evening when my children are asleep ๐Ÿ˜‰

Greetings all the way over to Nova Scotia, Heather! I spent a summer there many, many years ago. And was back two years ago. Love it there! Good luck in the contest!

  2. Lauren

I would love to sew some decorative items for my home, but I don’t have a proper sewing machine! Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks!

I wish I could find more time to sew!! I only get to about 6 times a year when the ladies from our Church get together to do it, and half the time I have to miss those due to my husband’s work schedule, not really the kind of thing you book a sitter for.

There is no dealer in my area.

I just started back at work so the extent of my sewing now is hemming pants and mending hubbys work clothes. My closest seller is Quilt as Desired in Winnipeg.

  5. Kim W.

My local dealer is Quilt as Desired. The only time I can fit sewing in is when the kids are in bed…sometimes that means an early bedtime ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Michelle B

I do not have a local dealer but the nearest dealer would be Quilt as Desired in Winnipeg. I sew at night after my kids go to bed -I used to try in the morning however then a good pair of scissors was used for crafts so now it is only at night ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Nicole precourt

My only local dealer is Quilt By Desired. Right now time for sweing is rare with 2 little ones and a home daycare, so it happens when everyone is sleeping or someone else is watching them.

I find time for sewing at night after the kids go to bed. My local retailer is
Marlene’s Specialty Fabrics – Lower Sackville
    thanks

  9. Norma Asmundson

My local shop is Quilt as Desired also. The staff there are so friendly and helpful. My last trip there was to drool over all the new machines.

A local authorized dealer here in my City is The Sewing Superstore. ๐Ÿ™‚ I find time to sew by sneaking down to my sewing room after the kids are in bed, or when they’re playing nicely together! ๐Ÿ™‚

My dealer is John’s Sewing Center in Barrie Ontario. He’s been my go-to guy for over 30 years and he now deals exclusively in Janome machines. I actually had a look at the SAH website last week. A Janome machine has been on my wishlist for about 3 or 4 years now. I would LOVE to win this Janome, it would be my first electronic sewing machine and my first Janome. I’ve been needing a new machine for a few years, we can’t get new parts for my old machine anymore. MB

  12. Karen

My local dealer is Quilt as Desired in Winnipeg ๐Ÿ™‚ I haven’t found much time lately to sew but that’s okay as my current sewing machine has bit the dust and I am in desperate need of a new one.

  13. Karen

My local store is Quilt as Desired in Winnipeg. My sewing machine bit the dust before we moved to Winnipeg in June so I’m looking for a new one. Most of my sewing is done during nap time though lol.

I’m so happy to read that I’m not the only one who’s time to sew is only when the kids are sleeping! I have a 20 months and a 5 months so the sewing time is reduced to a minimum!

  15. Jennifer

Quilt as Desired in Winnipeg is my local dealer. I am able to sew while my children are spending time with their Dad, or after they go to bed. =)

  16. Terri G

My local Janone dealer is Quilt As Desired. I love my current Janome, but don’t use it nearly as much as I would like. I think I need to start scheduling a ‘Janome appointment’ on my calendar!

  17. Sheila

My closest seller is Quilt as Desired in Winnipeg, I don’t get to sew much as I have three young ones would love to start up ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Cheryl Grandy

My dealer is Marlene’s Specialty Fabrics in Lower Sackville.
My children are grown so the main things now that can prevent me from sewing are my cats. Fortunately, unlike children, cats can be closed in another room for a while to keep them out of the way.

I have been sewing since I was six….a long time ago. I love all kinds of sewing, from hand to machine.
I love embroidery and have only done it by hand, so I would love a new machine with that feature.
I find time to sew early in the morning while the rest of the household is sleeping. I love sewing baby clothes with embroidery and smocking.
The closest Janome dealer is “Ultimate Sewing Centre” in Oshawa, Ontario. It’s about 45 minutes of where I live. An easy drive, not too far away!!

I am sooooooo excited about your contest and learning all about the great Janome sewing machines!!!

  21. Sharon

Dominion Sewing Centre in Sudbury and the Cloverdale Sewing Centre in Etobicoke are closest to me. I moved recently up north and had a baby so I haven’t had time to sew or to buy a sewing machine. I’d love to be able to sew up some cute cloth diapers for my little one.

  22. ikkinlala

My nearest Janome dealer is Findlay’s Vacuum and Sewing in Vernon… which is an oddly appropriate combination of specialties, because if I’m being honest I find time for sewing by skimping on household chores.

  23. Joy

I’m a student and I don’t have a lot of spare time. I like to make baby quilts for friends and I make time on weekends and evenings.

  24. Michelle

I had my own bag making business a few years ago, and sewed so much that I developed CANKLES! hope this doesn’t happen to you! ๐Ÿ™‚
