Summer Reads

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.  ~ Proverb

Oh how I love a good book. Whether it be a book that teaches me something or that allows me to retreat from the day-to-day and immerse myself in a story, there’s something divine about stealing away some time to flip through the pages of a good book.

I’ve been coveting a few new reads lately. Both in the areas of baking and sewing. I’m really trying to watch my intake of books lately – you know… wants vs. needs combined with a move coming up in a few short months makes me very conscientious of that fact that I may have a bit of a hoarding problem when it comes to books. But…

They are so full of colour and vibrancy!

They are fabulous for idea generation and discovering new things!

They are just SO PRETTY!!!

I have several in my online shopping cart just waiting for me to finalize their orders and welcome into my home.

Here are just a few I’m looking to get right now:

100ModernQuiltBlocks

100 Modern Quilt Blocks by Tula Pink – I’m really on a modern quilt binge right now. I am loving the colours this season and this book gets me excited about the possibilities!

Patchwork Please

Patchwork Please by Ayumi Takahashi

I love the idea of mini projects. I admit, I take a certain satisfaction from starting and finishing a project all in the same day. I can’t wait to order this book and try some of these clever and well-done sewing projects.

LPM

Les Petits Macarons: Colorful French Confections to Make at Home by Anne E. McBride, Kathryn Gordon

Look at those perfect little macaroons. {swoon} I want to make these. And eat them all in one bite.

In Jennie's Kitchen

And this one. I HAVE to have this one.

Homemade with Love: Simple Scratch Cooking from In Jennie’s Kitchen by Jennifer Perillo

Reading about her journey is enough reason on its own to pick up Jennifer Perillo’s book. But the recipes she shares in here are amazingly incredible and unique – which is not that easy to come across these days. The photos look beautifully done – I really need to pick this one up soon.

I think I just convinced myself to splurge a little today, but before I press “confirm” on my order — Am I missing any? What would you add to the list?

Let me know if you try the cookies! They are really good. Always nice to meet fellow Canadian bloggers. How are you doing with all the rain? Were you affected at all?
