I knew the moment I saw others post about this pattern on Instagram that I just had to get my hands on this dress.
The Belladone dress from Deer and Doe… what more can I say than it’s just cute personified!
It’s got the perfect amount of detail. Not overly complicated but still interesting. It’s classy and ladylike but retains a flirty appeal. And this dress is super flattering!
Deer and Doe is a french pattern making company. Elรฉonore Klein is the inspiration behind the simple, modern and stylish sewing patterns.
I ordered the pattern online a few weeks back. It’s a paper pattern so I had to wait for it to arrive but I wasn’t disappointed the day it was waiting for me in my mailbox. There’s definitely something special about a “real” pattern.
This was a surprisingly easy dress to make. I’ve made it twice now – this version is my second go through (and I already have the fabric for my third Belladone!). This one took me maybe three hours from start to finish, including zipper!
It’s such a beautiful dress.
I can’t say I’m usually a big pocket fan when it comes to dresses but with this one it really seems to work. And the pockets lie nice and flat and don’t draw attention to the hips (phew!).
The zipper is a beautiful hidden detail.
And the back is gorgeous, but tastefully hidden with a little cardi so that this is certainly work appropriate.
I just love this dress so much and can’t wait to wear it this summer!
I LOVE IT!!!
Is the pattern ‘ true to size ‘ ?
What adjustments did you have to make?
I think that’s it!!!
The measurements on the pattern were perfect! And it’s adjustable for those of us who don’t fit a perfect size 8, 10, 12, …. mold! I didn’t make any adjustments. It’s that classic!
Absolutely darling fabric. Love the dress! Good job! Stopping by from Salt Tree.
Thanks so much, Foster! I fell in love with the fabric right away and knew I had to use it for this dress. Funny how that happens!
TRES cute ! What type of fabric did you use? I haven’t sewn anything other than 100% cotton for eons … I think the last piece of clothing I tackled was made with ‘fortrel’ (probably before your time !)
It’s a 100% cotton material. Light and flowy and perfect for summer – this dress has just enough structure to make it work. I’ll have to google fortrel. ๐
Nice work! I love the dress and the fabric you used!
Love this dress!! And I really like the fabric, where did you get it?
Jenny from diywithjenandb.blogspot.com
Hi Jenny! I remembered to check on the fabric line this morning… but it looks like I used all I have and threw out the salvage edges (what was I thinking) so I can’t tell you the exact line this is from. I purchased it locally at a store called Marshall’s Fabrics. It’s a huge warehouse fabric store – I can spend hours there! If you’re curious, I could try to hunt it down for you. It was $12.99 a metre. And worth every penny for this dress!
I’m a beginner sewer and have never attempted a dress. Very tempting! Great job! I can’t believe you made it in 3 hours.

Thanks Gina! It was a surprisingly easy dress to work on considering that its got great detail. I think the more challenging spots are the binding around the neck and arm holes, and maybe the zipper. This was my second time through – it definitely took me longer the first time I worked on this. I’ll have to see if I can get my time down when I do my third Belladone! ๐ A really good “first dress” to try is The Staple Dress by April Rhodes. It’s a pretty dress but comes together really quickly as well – and NO zipper on this one. Let me know if you give it a try!
This is great! Lovely work!
Thank you!! That’s very sweet of you. ๐
So pretty – I love that fabric!
Thanks so much, Julie!!
Beautiful!! The fabric really is perfect for the dress! I still haven’t gotten comfortable sewing for myself, it just never seems to fit right! Someday… someday… ๐
Hey Heidi! That’s so sweet of you to say that. And I know what you mean about fit. I’m kinda the same but this Belladone dress makes it so easy. It’s encouraged me to try other dress patterns!
This is such a lovely dress and beautiful material, might have to make one for myself!
You totally should!! I’m completely in love with this dress!!
Very cute dress!! Found you at Chic on a Shoestring!
Thanks so much Nicole!!
Oh Love it! Thanks for sharing!
