The Geranium Dress

I think dresses for little girls are one of my favourite things to make right now. They are soooo adorable, there are soooo many pattern choices out there – and don’t even get me started on the possible fabric choices. And when the recipient tries on the final product, if they look a little chubby in the dress – it’s adorable!!! (Me – not so much!)

Lately I’ve been obsessed with The Geranium Dress from Made-By-Rae. Sizing for this dress goes from 0-3 mos all the way up to 5T. Considering the little girl I’ve been making dresses for right now is just 3 months, I think I’m going to get A LOT of use out of this pattern. So far I have tried two styles:

1) The sleeveless, long dress. Seriously, look at those little pleats!

I also love the cute little pattern on this fabric. This little girl loves her kitten.

2) And what is being called a shirt/top (because its shorter). Although the little girl I made this for is still wearing this as a dress but with solid tights (I guess you can get away with that what you’re only 3 months, right??). This one I added on the ruffle caps for the sleeves. It adds such a pretty detail.

There are a few different neckline options for this dress. This is the basic one. I hope to try the other options soon. They are very well thought out though with extra reinforcement so they kept their shape.

And the finishing touches… I love how things come together when you add those little final pieces.

I was just thinking about how in baking, I definitely have my “go-to” recipes. I have my classic, no-fail cake recipe. I have a swiss meringue buttercream that works like a charm. I have a dinner recipe perfect for company. I think this is my little dress “recipe” – I can see myself making this over and over again. The fabric and little details making it fresh and new every time.

Do you have a no-fail pattern that works just perfectly for you? Let me know!!
