Several weeks ago I was at a local quilting conference where I was able to pick up the new Moda line from Kate & Birdie called Blueberry Park. I absolutely LOVE the colours and prints on this line. So much so that I couldn’t wait to get working on a project with it.
I purchased a charm pack just as a sampler and so I figured a small lap quilt would be in order. Being that I love simple, clean lines, I just worked with the five inch squares as they were and used a Moda white fabric to allow each of the Kate & Birdie prints to stand out on their own.
Laying out the design probably took the longest. I’ve had this on my dining room table for a few weeks. Thankfully my cat Sebastian was *such* a good helper. There were a few times I’d walk by and notice *someone* had been up on the table and rearranged the order of the fabric squares. LOL! I guess he knew what he was doing because I’m really happy with how it all turned out in the end.
I finally got the quilt top sewn up the other night. I didn’t use a formal pattern but just sized according to what fit around the charm pack squares (yes, this from the girl who ALWAYS needs a recipe or set of instructions!). And it was a one-night project to get the quilt top done.
And just last night I worked on the backing. Also from the Moda Kate & Birdie Blueberry Park line. I ended up purchasing this from my new favourite online store (which is also within driving distance) – Road 17 N.
Can’t wait to trim and finish off the binding! And this quilt is soooo soft and squishy. It’s going to be even more lovely once it’s washed and all quilty/crinkly.
this kind of arrangement is the perfect showcase for favourite fabrics! I have used a similar system a few times now. I have not seen that fabric line before, but it sure looks 1950’s in a way, maybe it is those grid lines…
This is sooo cute! What a great project!
Great project and lovely fabrics!
Love your quilt! Kate & Birdie fabrics are wonderful. Love their stuff.
I have a fat quarter bundle of Blueberry Park waiting for some time to transform. I love the collection as I do Kate and Birdie’s Winter Lane. I have been to Road 17 N and Shari has a great shop. My drive is about 9 hours but well worth the trip.
Looking good!!
Love this! I recently picked up a few of the fabrics from this line and hadn’t yet seen the rest…. I think my wallet is in trouble now! Awesome job – and love how it showcases the great prints!
This is great! I recently picked up a few of these fabrics but hadn’t yet seen the whole line…. now I think my wallet is in trouble! 🙂
Lovely! I have a couple FQ’s of this to work with. I think it is so springy and fun.
Very nice project, but then you had a cat’s help…..
